Hi, my name is Pepijn, I work as a front-end developer and I'm originally from the Netherlands. I moved to Stockholm in August 2018 to work for Anyfin, so almost 2 years ago. I’m still working as a frontend developer so I have seen the company change a lot since I joined which is super exciting.
You say that the company has changed, in what way has it changed?
When I joined we were in a very hot Swedish summer packed in a very small office with like 7 or 8 people, it was crazy. Today we have a big and nice office in the center of Stockholm where it’s almost 60 people working, and since that first office we have already moved twice. Things have definitely changed both in that sense and in terms of work as well of course.
How is life as a developer at Anyfin?
Life at Anyfin is still very much like you would imagine at a startup. There are a lot of initiatives being taken and we work together to pragmatically solve problems. We typically work bottom up and the environment is not very layered. You don’t have a boss telling you what to do and when it should be done. You get a lot of responsibility and a lot of freedom in how you want to work and how to solve problems, it really brings out the best in me.
What has been the most exciting project you have been part of so far?
Apart from our lending product which is already super nice in terms of helping customers, I’m working on something even more exciting that helps people also manage their budget better, and as a developer I’ve had to solve a lot of the challenges of the financial parts. I get to dive into the API’s in the financial industry even more than before, and that really excites me. I think that working in fintech is really interesting in that regard and this project has really given me a chance to dive deep into how tech and finance really work together and how that can create new and amazing products.
Why are you working at Anyfin?
I chose Anyfin because I was looking for a company that had a strong vision and really passionate people. By joining I have gotten just that, we were a small set of passionate people in the beginning and now we have grown into a large group of passionate people instead, times change but the passion is there. I was explicitly looking for people who wanted to do stuff, get things done and make a good product with cool features that really help the customers. At the interview with the founders I got a good feeling about Anyfin, and from that moment on we just clicked - and here we are 2 years later.
What are you looking forward to next at Anyfin?
I’m working on the mobile app quite a bit at the moment and we are doing a lot of cool stuff with it. We are shipping a lot of improvements on it every day and since we are so many people now it becomes a bit of a bottleneck, it is harder to be efficient and get all the changes to the customers. What I’m looking forward to is making sure that problem goes away so that we can scale up the mobile app easier. I want to automate our processes even further so that our developers can ship more and more features.
You are also part of the recruitment team for our frontend developers, what would be your best advice to people wanting to apply to us?
We are always looking forward to meeting new people in the recruitment process and we really want to get to know who you are. I would say, don’t be afraid to show who you really are and what your passions are. We’re also always really excited to see people who have side projects or something they are really passionate about. Even if it might not be 100 % in line with what you are applying for I think it always shows a great deal about a person.
